Sewing Semi-Failure: Reversible Tote

ok, I'm not going to beat around the bush here- I struggle with sewing! I've tackled a few sewing projects in the past weeks and this little bag here is the best thing I've made so far, even though it has some issues.

It looks ok from a distance, but upon closer inspection the flaws become apparent. That's why I'm calling it a semi-failure.  I can still use it, but it's got problems.

Since I haven't had any success with using real patterns yet, I used a tutorial from Good Times Never Seem Sew Good to make this little bag.  I do so much better when I have good pictures to show me what to do!  It's an easy tutorial to follow- I only had problems because I tried to make my own variations.  I think I'll just stick to the basics from now on.

Well, I am off on a little trip to my hometown in AZ tomorrow!  I've got lots of family to visit so I won't be posting quite as often- just fyi.  I've got a post scheduled for next week and I'll try to post some photos from my trip!  Have a lovely weekend :)

  2. Elise, I think it looks great. As a beginning sewer myself, I feel the same as you... give me good tutorials with lots of pictures!! If you check out my sewing blog (www.sandysewz.blogspot.com) you will find some of the projects I have done with links to the tutorials. Maybe you will find something there you will like. BTW, I live outside of Sierra Vista myself! :)

  7. I think it looks pretty good form the pictures. Sewing is not for the faint of heart. I have been doing it since I was 12 and I still get frustrated and want to throw my work out the window. I think you have a great blog and I'm a new follower. If you find the time stop by and see if you like my little "blog spot" @ http://www.arosiesweethome.com/ I also host a Sunday Linky if you would like to link up anything you want.
    Thanks,
    Rose

  9. I felt your pain with this one. I too am new to sewing. The results of which can be seen on my blog...which is exactly the distance it needs to be to avoid being wonky! I don't know about you, but I kinda love the things that are almost right; they are the steps to being good at something. Anyway - have a lovely break. I am a new GFC and look forward to seeing how your future projects go.
